Exhibit A

This is exactly what I'm talking about. A headline from a story on MSNBC today:

"California whooping cough outbreak may be largest in 55 years. Over 4,000 cases, 9 deaths this year; decline in vaccinations blamed"

As though there was something else to blame.

I was just telling hubby I wonder how many kids will have to die from all these preventable diseases before people wake up. Nine won't register on anyone's radar. People will shrug off 9. But I bet the 9 sets of parents won't. And there was nothing they could have done differently short of keeping their babies in a bubble:

"All of the whooping cough-related deaths in California occurred in babies too young to be fully immunized against the illness, which is why parents and caretakers are being urged to get booster shots."

I know, I keep hammering away at it. It just makes my blood boil that babies are dying unnecessarily.

I'm done now. I've said my piece.

  1. I agree with you. Yet another thing that terrifies me. I don't want anyone around Liam that hasn't had their TDap, but when you start asking around, no one's had it. I just got mine last week so how the heck can I be mad at anyone? I didn't even realize there was a vaccination that I should have had, but hadn't. I just finished seeing my OB for 9 months straight(I realize I couldn't get it while pregnant but DH could have & I would have gotten it immediately PP) and have been to the pedi 4x so far and not once was it mentioned by them. You'd think they would be people I could trust to help me ensure I keep Liam as healthy as possible. I found out about the TDap myself while researching vaccinations.

  2. I got the TDap as part of my tetnus shot before I even got pregnant; and how can people ignore the commercials that are on every 2 minutes on TLC 'cause honestly they are terrifying.

  3. It annoys me too. How can some parents put not only their own kids, but everyone else's too. Just because they read an artical that some moron published with out checking the facts. grrrr
